St Helens Mobile Community Food Pantry: A Lifeline for Affordable Food
The St Helens Mobile Community Food Pantry is a vital initiative providing accessible and affordable food to residents of the St Helens Borough. Launched in 2023 with support from government funding and local partnerships, this service operates as an affordable food club under the “Your Local Pantry” model. Members pay a small weekly fee in exchange for food worth three to four times the cost, making it an invaluable resource during the ongoing cost-of-living challenges.
The mobile pantry operates at various community hubs across St Helens, including Wargrave Big Local, Sutton Family Centre, and Park Farm Community Centre, among others, ensuring convenient access for all, including those with mobility challenges. In addition to affordable food, visitors are welcomed with free refreshments and information about additional local services.
Led by a coalition of faith groups, voluntary organisations and local authorities, the pantry reduces food waste and strengthens community bonds. It complements the borough’s network of static pantries, ensuring even broader access to essential provisions.
Church leaders are invited to share information about the mobile pantry with their congregations and consider partnering with the initiative to support its outreach. For more information or to get involved, visit sthelensmobilepantry.org.uk.
